Kimball International's safety philosophy emphasizes that safety is a value, and unlike priorities, values never change. Management commitment and employee involvement play a key active role in designing and implementing safety programs for their respective workplaces.
Kimball policies and procedures are designed to enhance a culture where each employee accepts responsibility for their own personal safety, as well as the safety of their coworkers. Kimball promotes awareness and educational campaigns among employees with the goal of eliminating exposures - or risks - that create unsafe conditions and behaviors.
A STAR Workplace - The Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)
 |
Kimball achieved an unprecedented six Indiana facilities under the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) in recognition of their outstanding safety programs. |
Kimball International has achieved an unprecedented six "STAR" certified sites under the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). The VPP seeks to recognize employers with superior occupational safety and health management systems.
Sites selected to receive VPP STAR status are committed to effective employee protection beyond the requirements of OSHA standards, and have developed and implemented systems to identify, evaluate, prevent, and control occupational hazards to prevent employee injuries and illnesses. As a result, the average VPP worksite has a lost workday incidence rate more than 50% below the average for its industry.
Kimball International was the first Indiana-based company to have a VPP STAR workplace; and Kimball was also the first Indiana company to have two VPP STAR facilities. To date, only 46 other companies in Indiana have achieved the VPP STAR. Nationwide, fewer than 2,400 companies have achieved the coveted STAR status under this program since it began in 1982. Even fewer have achieved the distinction on their first application.
