The Kimball U.S. Employee Wellness Plan strives to increase the well-being and productivity of all employees, through the enhancement of all aspects of health.
The plan components seek to increase awareness of positive health behaviors, to motivate employees to voluntarily adopt healthier behaviors and to provide opportunities and a supportive environment to foster positive lifestyle changes. The Plan also seeks to aid wellness in our communities by encouraging employees to give back and/or aid health-related causes through periodic sponsored charitable activities and programs.
Helping To Facilitate Healthy Change - Company Wellness Programs:
Kimball employees are educated in wise healthcare consumerism and exercise their authority as consumers regarding their choice of benefit coverage and where and how to spend their cash.
With spiraling healthcare insurance costs, wellness has become a very serious matter for both employees and their employers. The first weapon in the fight for wellness is information. Over the years, Kimball has adopted a number of safety and health/wellness policies. While safety initiatives continue to promote traditional safety on the job through increased awareness and use of safety glasses, hard hats, ear plugs and things like machine guards, today's initiatives deal more with helping employees kick the tobacco addiction, make better nutritional choices, exercise, reduce stress and create a more healthy lifestyle.
To encourage prevention as a means to maintain employee health, Kimball medical plans cover preventative exams, such as PAPS, Mammograms, and PSAs. With a stated goal to eliminate injuries in the workplace, Kimball manufacturing operations have placed even greater emphasis on the role ergonomics can successfully play in redesigning production lines, equipment, processes and even individual work stations.
Healthy Consumerism & Wellness Coordinators:
A Kimball healthcare consumerism campaign continuously informs employees about how their choices affect their health as well as their healthcare costs, and provides tools to enable them to become wise consumers of healthcare services. Employees receive monthly bulletins via mail and on-line, which provide useful guidelines on a variety of health topics, by season. A wellness newsletter is mailed to every employee's home address, and unit newsletters include safety and seasonal wellness tips, articles and advice.
Kimball operations may have a designated Wellness Coordinator to develop programs and activities that educate and reinforce health and wellness messages to their employees. Examples include health risk appraisals, cholesterol screenings, team weight loss events, blood tests, pre-work stretching and exercise programs, massages, and free fresh fruit in the workplace.
Joining with local area hospitals, some Kimball locations have arranged for Hospital Mobile Units to arrive on site and provide convenient, confidential health screenings. Such screenings focus on a lifestyle assessment that includes blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, Body Mass Index (BMI), healthy heart, skin cancer and bone density.The health screen information provides needed data to support creating individual wellness goals.
The role of the Wellness Team is to encourage employees to participate in healthy lifestyles. Wellness improves Safety programs by improving employees' physical and mental stamina.
Snacks & Wellness
Employees of Kimball administrative office areas receive reminders to eat healthy in the form of baskets of fruit, such as apples, bananas or oranges left in their break rooms. Kimball manufacturing plant employees also receive healthy snacks, as well as bottled water, or during the summer months, frozen popsicles to help beat the heat. These refreshments are provided by wellness team members to encourage and reinforce the importance of healthy lifestyles.
