Kimball has completed a baseline Greenhouse Gas profile for each of their manufacturing facilities. A Greenhouse Gas tracking system has been established to verify continuous improvement results. We will continue to evaluate processes, equipment, and other energy sources for reduction in Greenhouse Gas emissions.
Sustainable & Continuous Improvement Projects completed under the Significant Environmental Aspect Programs have resulted in a reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 20,525 metric tones of C02 equivalent, an 18.1% reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions from 2008 to 2011.
Dust collection systems installed at Kimball manufacturing facilities since the 1970’s remove 99% of all particulate matter from the air, improving the working environment for employees. During the winter season, the cleaned and heated air is returned into the manufacturing areas, thus reducing energy demand and reducing Greenhouse Gas emissions.
Kimball International operations have been substituting less harmful chemicals or eliminating them entirely at its facilities since 1990. These efforts have resulted in reductions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) emissions by 65%, or 989 tons, since 2001. There was a slight increase in 2011 due to the implementation of Ultraviolet Flat Line wood finishing technology while the old, traditional, manual spray system was being phased out.
From 2007 to 2011, Kimball International has globally reduced VOC emissions from company production processes by 478 tons.

Reducing vehicle fuel usage and emissions earned Kimball's truck fleet certification by the (EPA) Environmental Protection Agency as a "SmartWay" Partner. Kimball's ranking in the top 25th percentile of partners reflects a high level of success saving diesel fuel and reducing emissions.
